When you hear the name Katy Perry, what comes to your mind? Hit singles like ‘DARK HORSE,’ ‘UNCONDITIONALLY,’ ‘ROAR,’ and ‘FIREWORK,’ right?
Well, you’ll be stunned to hear that at some points in her Career, Katy was the most followed person on Twitter. Between the years 2011 and 2019, she was included in the annual Forbes lists of highest-earning women in music. Like that isn’t enough, Katy has four Guinness World Records to her name and nine Billboard Hot 100 number one singles.
The stuff of a legend, right? Hmmm, Rihanna sums it up well when she called Katy a legend in one of her interviews.

In celebration of Katy’s birthday today (25th October), we decided to take a deep dive into the world of global music exploration. And our stop is YouTube.

The 365 Days Music Video Analysis divided into 3 categories:
- Worldwide
- United States
- United Kingdom
What are the most-watched (best performing) music videos on YouTube in the past year? We’ve conducted 365-day research to find this out. To implement the study, we examined top-performing music videos of every week for the last 365-day.
For example, we considered all music videos published between October 26, 2020 and November 1, 2020 (Week 1), then we used some YouTube analysis tools to figure out the 7 videos with the highest number of views for that week. We repeated the same procedure every other day.
Why pick out 7 videos? You wonder. Call it symmetry, but we love the idea of 1 video representing one day. So, technically, it’s like saying we’re picking out 7 top videos for every week, where each video stands for each day of the week. In the end, we have 365 videos analyzed.
Note: Best/top-performing video refers to the video with the highest number of YouTube views.
The table below shows 10 channels with the highest number of top-performing videos in the last year. It also shows the type of music each channel does, as well as the number of subscribers each channel has.
All these are facts compiled from the 365-day research. The methodology of research is as explained in the previous frame of the post.
The Top-Performing 10 Channels with Videos That Performed the Best Over the Last 365 Days (Worldwide Data)

- T-series and Bizzarap have 8 top-performing videos respectively in the last 12 months. That means they’ve both produced videos that did well on more occasions than any other channel.
- With a total of 196 million subscribers, it’s easy to see why T-series’ videos performed better than the others – they have the largest audience base. Based on these numbers, one can easily predict T-series to keep topping similar charts in the coming years.
- Despite having just 10.8M subscribers, Bizzarap produced 8 top-performing videos in the last year. What does that tell us? That Bizzarap’s videos are the most engaging on YouTube. Because if not, why would he perform better than, say, Billie Eilish with 43Million+ subscribers and other music channels with more subscribers?
- Based on his numbers, Bizarrap is the best performing Latin artist on YouTube.
- T-series’ huge audience base (number of subscribers) can be attributed to their wider coverage of artists.
- 7 of the top 10 channels on the list of the channels with the most top-performing videos are Indian music channels.
- The first and only American YouTube music channel with at least 5 top-performing music videos in the past year is Billie Eilish’s YouTube page.

- Indian Music videos are represented 8 times on the top 10 list of the most-watched music videos on YouTube in the past year. While American Music videos have one representation and Canada, one.
- No single artist, music brand, or channel is represented more than once on the list. Therefore, we can infer it’s probably hard for one artist to have multiple videos doing the rounds on YouTube at once.
- Of all the best-performing videos on YouTube, Lut Gaye (Full Song) is the best placed to hit 1 billion+ view. Not because it is currently the most-watched music video on the platform but mainly because it’s managed to hit that feat in just nine months since it first premiered.
A lot of US music videos are usually published on YouTube every day; from kid’s content to general music content. We wanted to know how these videos were performing, so we took a ride down the research lane.
We conducted research on all US music videos published between the timeframe of October 25, 2020 to October 24, 2021.
As you’ll soon see, our research uncovered some interesting facts about the performances of these music videos, their channels, and also the artists.
Here is a list showing 10 channels with the highest number of top-performing videos in the last year. The channel with the most representation is Funniflix with 15 top-performing videos. And coming closely behind is Now United, with 10 top-performing videos.

- Funnyflix is the channel with the highest number of top-performing videos in the last year. They have 15. The regularity with which their videos are watched has made them one of the biggest earners in the YouTube Music industry. Yet, they aren’t the channel with the most subscribers. Ironic! What does that tell us? It means their type of music content draws in the greatest amount of YouTube viewers. And what’s their type of content exactly? Kid’s Music. Apparently, creating music videos specifically for kids’ interests is one of the best content-creation options on YouTube. Not even musicians as big as Tory Lanez could muster top-performing videos with the same regularity as Funnyflix.
- Behind Kid’s music content, hip-hop music videos are the next best-performing type of music content on YouTube.
- With 9 top-performing videos in the last year, Tory Lanez is obviously the most loved, followed, and watched solo artist in the US.
- Kid’s music has six representations on the list. That’s way more than pop music or even hip hop/rap music. Again, that’s a confirmation that kid’s music performs better on US YouTube than regular music videos.
- Having the highest number of subscribers is not a guarantee your content will perform best on YouTube. Take a look at the Kids Diana Show. The channel has 84 million subscribers and yet could only muster 9 top-performing videos in the last year. In contrast, Funnilix – with just 5.5 million subscribers – was able to garner a whopping 15 top-performing videos.
- Lil Durk, with 6 top-performing music videos, is clearly the best HIP-HOP TRAP artist in the US in the past year. Guess that explains why the young rapper is featured on almost every SONG out there.

- For a US music video released in the last 12 months to be amongst the most-watched on YouTube, it must hit the threshold of at least 104M+ VIEWS. That’s because the tenth most-watched music video in the US currently has 104M views.
- There are as many kid’s music videos in the list of the top 10 most-watched US music videos as there are regular music videos.
- Although Diana and Roma Happy Birthday Song is the 10th most-watched music video on YouTube in the past year, the video has the potential to rise higher up the ranking over the coming months. In just six months of release, it’s garnered approximately 170M views already. Expect it to get even more views over the next few weeks.

We conducted YouTube research to uncover all these. We titled the research, “An in-depth analysis of the top-performing UK music videos on YouTube over the last 365 days (October 25, 2020 and October 24, 2021.).”
The aim of the study was to get a macroscopic view of the performances of all UK music videos published on YouTube between October 25, 2020 and October 24, 2021. In total, 365 top-performing videos were identified. By top-performing, we mean those videos with the highest number of YouTube views.

- GRM Daily has dominated the UK music industry for many years, and the past year has not been different. With over 90 top-performing videos produced over the last 12 months, the platform is, without doubt, the most followed UK platform.
- Despite showcasing and celebrating the very best of South Asian music, SUFISCORE’s numbers reflect how multicultural and diversified the UK music listening industry is.
- The best-performing YouTube music channels in the UK are mostly music groups/outlets rather than a solo artist – from GRM daily to SUFISCORE, Pressplay Media to Mixtape Madness.
- Aaron Fraser-Nash is the best-performing solo music artist in the UK on YouTube.
- Awakening Music is the best-performing Muslim faith-inspired music brand in the UK on YouTube.
- No room for kid’s music in the list of the top 10 best-performing UK music videos on YouTube. Although that doesn’t mean there are no kid’s music channels in the UK, it ONLY shows the kind of music the average UK music listener prefers to watch on YouTube.
- The appearance of NerdOut on the list is a testament to the UK’s love for video games, superheroes, movies, and geek stuff. Hardly will you find a gaming music channel appearing on a similar chart in other countries.

Note: This data was collected from 20 October to 24th October 2021, so the subscribers and views do not match with the current date numbers.
In addition, we have filtered music videos having the words “music” and “song” in the title.
We also considered video categories Music, Entertainment, and People & Blogs. We have taken videos having lengths up to 5min/300 seconds. We calculated youtube channel earning via Influencermarketinghub.com website, which is not 100% accurate as they clearly mentioned.
